GPE students acquire methodological, technological, and economic system competencies in engineering and management. They also develop and strengthen social competencies in communication and cooperation, as well as skills in multidisciplinary, production-technology-related projects with selected exemplary specializations. Graduates possess engineering vision, along with theoretical and practical problem-solving skills within international networks in the domain of technology management. They are prepared for technology-oriented careers in multinational companies and organizations.
We equip students with the competencies they need to thrive in the professional world by allowing them to choose their own courses from a broad curriculum. This ensures that students can pursue their professional interests and further develop their individual talents within the framework of the degree program. The only constraint is that students complete a quota of credit points in each module group.
In the module group Production, students acquire knowledge and skills on overarching production topics and delve deeply into specific production technologies, such as multi-axis milling processes or additive manufacturing. Depending on the course of study selected, students acquire knowledge of tools, machine tools, and production processes, as well as production technologies such as additive manufacturing, factory and production planning, and other topics relevant to manufacturing operations. In any case, students learn how to use relevant production engineering methods, as well as up-to-date knowledge in the field of digitally integrated production.
Recent Modules:
- Production Technology
- Manufacturing and Factory Planning
- Manufacturing and Factory Planning Operations
- Additive Manufacturing
This module group focuses intensively on specific modern technological solutions for today’s challenges. Students will take an in-depth look at renewable energy production, recycling technology, and other sustainable technologies. In addition, students will gain a thorough understanding of methodical product development, automation technology, and data processing methods, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Recent Modules:
- Digitalization and AI in Automation Engineering
- Systematic Product Development
- Renewable Power Technologies
- Utilization of Wind Energy
- PV Systems / Solar Cells
- Machine Learning and Mathematical Optimization for Engineering and Management
- Advanced Recycling Technologies
A global production network and a company cannot survive without management that is structured, method-based and results-oriented. The Management module group shows different perspectives on value creation, from the point of view of Original Equipment Manufacturers, the supply chain or the financial perspective. Students learn methods of operational management, production control, quality management and life cycle assessment. They also gain insight into the scientific development of management methods and the industrial management standards in Europe and the rest of the world.
Recent Modules:
- Global Production Management
- Quality Management
- Environmental Management
As an industrial engineer in complex global value systems, it is essential to be able to communicate effectively, lead intercultural and interdisciplinary teams, and understand and incorporate global developments and standards into every decision. In the module group “Intercultural Communication”, in addition to German classes with a strong focus on technical terminology, students delve deeper into project management and the standardisation of industrial products by working together on innovation projects or conducting audits for case studies.
Recent Modules:
- Workshop for Intercultural Communication and Relationships
- German for Engineers
- Sustainability – Approaches and Tools
- Project Management in International and Intercultural Environments
- Global Integrated Management Systems
- Technology and Innovation Management
The Special Profile deals with more in-depth issues that arise in industry and science. Whether it’s lean methods or developing your own business models, new forms of energy storage or aspects of the automotive industry, the modules don’t fit into the other module groups. In this module group, many of the lecturers have a rich background in industry and can provide a good insight into industrial practice.
Recent Modules:
- GPE Seminar for Scientific Writing
- Methods- Time Measurement
- Lean Management
- Lean Production
- Energy Storage Technologies
- Business Models and Entrepreneurship
- Enterprise Architecture and IT in the Automotive Industry
- Simulation of Production Systems

The planned duration of the GPE program is four semesters, with three semesters of
intense course studies and one semester including the mandatory internship
and finally the Master Thesis. These four semesters can be extended without
increasing the fees of15.500€ / for the full curriculum.
Global Production Engineering is a full-time four-semester master program offered at the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. The curriculum is designed for outstanding international graduate students seeking to improve their personal competence portfolio in the fields of production, management, engineering, and intercultural communication.
During the program, students complete a total of 120 ECTS points: 90 credits during courses in the first three semesters, 12 credits for an internship in the industry, and finally 18 credits are achieved by completing the master thesis. Within the first stage of the program, students can choose their courses from the five module groups, designing their own individual GPE Program according to their interests and career plans. The mandatory internship must be completed outside of the country, the student comes from. This helps them to build experience and the competencies in global settings. Completing the last 18 credit points, students write their master thesis, which can be done in industry, but always needs to have a strong relation to research and will be supervised by lecturers of GPE and the TUB.

The strong international orientation of the program can be seen in the fact that 90% of our students come from countries outside Europe. Among our student body and alumni, we count people from over 50 different countries of origin. The GPE master program courses are exclusively held in English. GPE is a master program especially aimed at students with a bachelor degree or equivalent and at least one-year professional experience.
